Tim will make the case that AI implemented on a deterministic, digital computer (of the kind we see today) can never be conscious, because consciousness requires an inherent unpredictability of the kind we find within living systems. But what if AI is implemented on a non-deterministic computer, specifically a quantum computer? Could a quantum AI system ever be conscious?
