This talk will look at a notable test case for our confidence in truth. The simple question of whether we can truly say what we were doing half an hour ago drags in a wide range of philosophical issues. Is the past a part of eternal time, or does it cease to exist? Do strong memories support confident assertions of truth? Can assertions of past truths be true if they refer to non-existent things? If there are truths about the past, what makes them true? What do past tense verbs mean?
The talk will try to identify the key issues among this tangle of questions.
