This talk is based on the proposition that ’the self’ is the name we give to a complex human system that is an ensemble of other developing systems including moral, emotional, cognitive, aesthetic, symbolic and so on.
It is in the interplay of these systems that our self is gradually created over time. Understanding this is the first step to being able, self-reflexively, to make changes to the way we are developing, at any stage of life, but particularly as we grow older. Based on concepts from process philosophy, complexity theory and other philosophical domains such as biology plus a wide range of thinkers including Gilbert Simondon and Evan Thompson, we can explore together ways of improving our chances of using philosophy to live happier and more fulfilled lives
