The hardest questions about practical problems are often not asked. I will talk about three of them. First, in environmental ethics, what is the right human position in the world: we are clearly special, but why, how, and with what implications?
Second, also in environmental ethics, what are our responsibilities to the unknown unborn of the next generations?
Finally, can philosophy help us set monetary policy? The talk will be about methodology as well as results, since the only way to get good practical answers is to pay careful attention to how questions are posed.
