I was a doctor for nearly 40 years and have a long-standing interest in philosophy. For this reason, it may seem strange that philosophical medical ethics scarcely figures in my list of philosophical publications. I explore the reasons for this, in a talk that will focus on the Sorites problem or The Paradox of the Heap , which highlights the difficulty of applying (necessarily) vague predicates to decision-making in real world situations.
