Originally from North Yorkshire, John Holroyd studied philosophy, theology and religious studies at King’s College, London in the 1980s. He has since taught religious studies and philosophy in both state and independent schools and was Head of Religious Studies at St. Dunstan’s College in south London for over twenty years.
In 2019 John founded the Critical Thinking Circle where he teaches a number of online courses in philosophy. He also teaches philosophy and religious studies at City Lit in Covent Garden. John lectured at the London School of Philosophy and also at the Workers’ Educational Association for a number of years. As well as publishing his book Judging Religion in 2019 he has had a number of articles published in Philosophy Now magazine, in The Ethical Review and most recently he has written about his travels in Uzbekistan ‘Wondering in Uzbekistan’ published in REToday, a journal for Religious Education teachers and professionals. In his spare time John plays blues piano, attends art classes and volunteers with MIND.
