Paul Savoie

My wonder of the Universe, everything in it and indeed every “thing” outside it, started at young age when I asked questions such as why is the sky blue. Further questions arose with the discovery that π does not resolve to a perfect fraction, the magic of calculus infinitesimals, how words are only defined by further words.  This enquiry also infiltrated my religious beliefs e.g. the all Cretans are always liars paradox (Titus 1 v12), or the utterances of Solomon, noted for his wisdom, that “everything is meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 1 v2).  However, unlike many adults I did not, to misquote St Paul, “put away childlike things”.

It was only later in life that my curiosity seemed to align with those of philosophy.  Thus, I have pursued the love of wisdom, in an amateur (in the true original sense of the word) manner.  Whilst, I agree with Russell that “Philosophy is to be studied, not for the sake of any definite answers to its questions…. but rather for the sake of the questions themselves”, nonetheless I am always seeking out the Truth (however that might be defined).  When I finally hang up my measuring equipment, qua Chartered Surveyor, I will change my passport data to Metaphysician (or should that be Metaphysicist)?
