The History of Truth

Presented by: Peter Gibson

Truth is a good candidate for being the most important concept in philosophy. There is no neat story of the history of this concept, but the talk will track past confidence in truth, and its status. There have always been conflicting views of truth, but the topic hots up in modern times, once philosophy shifted its focus onto thought and language (rather than external reality).

The talk will end with the question of whether our faith in truth can survive these complex and quite heated disputes.
